Large number of animal heads found stockpiled in unsanitary conditions

The scandalous scenes that emerged at the Gemlik Bağkur Industrial Site have revealed a dire situation threatening public health.

Following reports that dozens of decomposed cattle heads, determined to have been collected after Eid al-Adha, were being stockpiled in unsanitary conditions at a business, an investigation was launched by the Gemlik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

During the inspections, it was determined that the animal heads were being kept in the open, stacked on top of each other, and in a decomposed state.

According to allegations, the suspicion that these products were being sold to certain offal shops and that the spoiled meat was being used in products such as 'kelle paça' (head and trotter soup) has caused great public concern.

BUSINESS SEALED

Following the incident, an operation was carried out with the Gemlik Municipality police teams, during which it was determined that the business was operating without a license, and the establishment was immediately sealed. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation under Article 186 of the Turkish Penal Code on charges of 'selling or possessing spoiled, altered, or unhealthy food products for this purpose.'

Authorities emphasized that inspections will be increased to prevent similar incidents that threaten public health. It was reported that within the scope of the investigation, individuals and businesses connected to the unlicensed workplace are also being examined one by one.
