Martyr's remains laid to rest in his hometown 67 years later

The remains of 21-year-old Gendarmerie Sergeant Mustafa Zamkı, who was martyred in the Kızıltepe district of Mardin in 1958, have been laid to rest in Çankırı, where they were transferred.

Martyr's remains laid to rest in his hometown 67 years later

Mustafa Zamkı, who was registered to the village of Müsellim in the Yapraklı district of Çankırı, was martyred in a clash during a patrol mission in 1958 while performing his national service on the Syrian border in Mardin.

Upon the request of his brother, Ali Zamkı, permission was granted to move the martyr's grave to the Çankırı Martyrs' Cemetery.

The grave in Akdoğan village was opened this morning after 67 years, accompanied by the Kızıltepe Public Prosecutor and military personnel, and the remains were placed in a coffin.

The coffin, draped in the Turkish flag, was brought to the Kızıltepe Gendarmerie Battalion Command under military escort.

Following a military ceremony held there, the remains of Martyr Mustafa Zamkı were sent off to the martyrs' cemetery in his hometown of Çankırı to be laid to rest.
