Meat went to restaurants and butchers before consumers! No meat left for citizens

During the month of Ramadan, 1,750 markets in Istanbul and Ankara fixed their meat prices. When butchers and restaurant owners bought the cheap meat by the kilo before consumers could, there was no meat left in the markets. The markets found the solution in imposing quotas on meat sales.

NO MEAT LEFT IN MARKETS

With the protocol signed between the Meat and Milk Board (ESK) and the Federation of Turkish Retailers, meat prices were fixed throughout the month of Ramadan. 1,500 member markets in Istanbul and 250 in Ankara kept meat prices at a certain level. According to NTV's report, this led to another problem.

When restaurant owners and butchers wanting to buy cheap meat purchased dozens of kilos of meat, there was no meat left for the citizens. For this reason, a quota was imposed on meat sales. Market employees are also working hard to distinguish between citizens and restaurant owners.

HOW MUCH ARE MEAT PRICES?

In the practice implemented to prevent exorbitant price hikes and speculation in meat prices, ground meat is sold for 379 TL per kilo and cubed meat for 399 TL per kilo in 1,500 member markets in Istanbul and 250 in Ankara.
