New details in Kartalkaya tragedy: Fire started in the kitchen

Turkey has been talking for days about the tragedy that occurred at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Center. It is known that 78 people have lost their lives so far due to the fire that broke out at the hotel at 03:21. New details have emerged regarding the investigation launched into the incident.

FIRE STARTED IN THE KITCHEN

According to initial findings obtained from the investigation file, the fire started in the kitchen located in the restaurant section. The fire escape inside the building acted like a chimney, carrying the resulting smoke to the upper floors.

MOST PEOPLE DIED FROM POISONING

It has been learned that in the tragedy where 78 people lost their lives, most of the deaths occurred due to the carbon monoxide gas produced, and a large portion of the 78 people died from gas poisoning.

The completion of the expert report is awaited for detailed and definitive information. It has been learned that the expert report will be completed within today.

THERE WAS NO SPRINKLER SYSTEM!

According to another piece of information obtained, it was revealed that there was no sprinkler system in the restaurant kitchen where the fire broke out. It was noted that the first intervention to the flames took place 1 hour and 15 minutes after the first report. The fire was extinguished in a total of 11 hours.

According to the report on NTV, the number of people who lost their lives by jumping out of windows in desperation in the building engulfed by flames is also quite high.

11 PEOPLE IN CUSTODY

Within the scope of the investigation launched into the fire, 11 people have been taken into custody to date. Among those detained are Bolu Deputy Mayor Sedat Gülener, Acting Fire Chief Kenan Coşkun, the business owner, the company general manager, and the hotel manager.

In the preliminary damage assessment report prepared, it was stated that the building is "heavily damaged."

For the comprehensive investigation into the fire, 6 public prosecutors, 4 chief inspectors, and a 7-person expert committee have been formed. Work is ongoing.
