Obsessive ex-boyfriend murder in İzmir: Changing address could not save her
26-year-old Gözde Akbaba, who was subjected to an armed attack by her ex-boyfriend in the Menemen district of İzmir, has lost her battle for life in the hospital. The suspect, who fled after the incident, was apprehended by gendarmerie teams along with the weapon used in the crime, while the moment of the murder was captured by security cameras.
The incident occurred on Monday, January 19, at around 20:20 in the İnönü neighborhood of the Menemen district. According to the information obtained, Gözde Akbaba (26) was subjected to an armed attack by her ex-boyfriend, Lokman E. (33), who had allegedly been harassing and threatening her for some time, as she arrived at the entrance of the residential complex where she lived.
He laid an ambush and opened fire
It is alleged that Lokman E., who had a restraining order against him and had previously threatened the young woman by saying "I will kill you," laid an ambush at the entrance of the complex and opened fire on Akbaba. The young woman, who was wounded below her left kneecap, was taken to Çiğli Training and Research Hospital by an ambulance that arrived at the scene.
The moment of the incident on camera
On the other hand, the armed attack was captured by a nearby security camera. The footage shows the young woman encountering the armed attacker as she was about to enter her home, followed by the attacker chasing her. The sounds of gunshots and the cries for help from the unfortunate woman who lost her life can also be heard in the footage.
Captured an hour and a half after the incident
Following the incident, the Gendarmerie Criminal Investigation Team (JASAT) and Crime Scene Investigation (OYİ) teams launched a comprehensive investigation under the coordination of the Menemen Duty Public Prosecutor's Office. As a result of field research, the suspect, Lokman E., was captured about an hour and a half after the incident while waiting at a gas station. An unlicensed pistol and an empty magazine, believed to have been used in the incident, were seized during a search of the suspect.
Lost her 2-day battle for life
Gözde Akbaba, who was treated in the intensive care unit at the hospital, passed away on January 21 despite all interventions. The news of the young woman's death devastated her family and loved ones.
Following the death examination procedures performed by the Karşıyaka Duty Public Prosecutor, Akbaba's body was sent to the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for an autopsy.
The detained suspect, Lokman E., was arrested by the court after his procedures at the gendarmerie.
