Orhan Gencebay faces legal battle

Orhan Gencebay experienced issues with his tenant regarding a property he owns in Sarıyer, Istanbul, which is operated as a restaurant.

ALLEGATION OF "NOT PAYING THE 8 THOUSAND LIRA MONTHLY RENT FOR A LONG TIME"

According to the allegations, the operator running a business on Gencebay's property in the Rumeli Kavağı neighborhood has not paid the monthly rent of 8 thousand TL for a long time.

Following the disruption in rent payments, Gencebay sent a formal notice to his tenant, but when no payment was made despite the warnings, the artist applied to the Istanbul Civil Court of Peace and filed an eviction lawsuit.

GENCEBAY: MY WARNINGS WERE IGNORED

In the petition submitted to the court, Gencebay's lawyers stated that the tenant did not fulfill their obligations and that the property owner was being victimized. For this reason, the eviction of the business in question was requested.

ALTHOUGH THE COURT ISSUED AN EVICTION ORDER, THE PROCESS IS NOT OVER

The local court examined the evidence and statements, found Orhan Gencebay to be in the right, and decided to evict the tenant from the shop; however, following the decision, the operator appealed, claiming that they had paid their rent on time and that the decision was harsh. The file was moved to the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice.

The higher court evaluated the appeal and sent the file back to the local court for re-examination, and the process has been reopened for retrial.
