Parliamentary Commission set for Imralı: Date set for meeting with terrorist leader Öcalan
The proposal to visit Imralı is expected to be on the agenda at Thursday's meeting of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, which was established as part of the second peace process. If a consensus is reached, it is stated that the delegation could carry out the visit within 15 days.
The National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, which continues its work within the framework of the second resolution process, has a notable item on its agenda this week. At the 17th meeting to be held on Thursday, it is expected that a proposal for a delegation consisting of commission members to go to İmralı Island will be discussed.
GOAL: VISIT WITHIN 15 DAYS
According to information from parliamentary corridors, if a consensus is reached on the "visit to İmralı" proposal, the delegation plans to complete visit preparations and head to the island within 15 days.
NO HEARINGS THIS TIME
According to a report by Ceren Bayar from T24, unlike previous meetings, no "hearings" will be held at the commission's Thursday session. In a statement from the Speaker of Parliament's office, it was shared that the commission would meet "to discuss the issues on its agenda."
REPORT PREPARATION ON THE AGENDA
The meeting will also address the preparation process for the report that the commission will present to the General Assembly of Parliament, which is expected to include proposals for legal regulations. The issue of whether the report will be prepared through a subcommittee or with the contributions of party representatives will be discussed. Receiving expert support is also among the considerations.
WILL THERE BE A TRIP TO İMRALI?
One of the topics to be addressed in the commission will be a possible visit to İmralı Island. It is expected that a proposal for a delegation to be formed from the members to go to the island to meet with PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan will be brought to the agenda. It is stated that after the opinions of the commission members are taken, the issue may be put to a vote if deemed necessary.
The stances of political parties regarding the proposal to visit İmralı differ. The MHP and DEM Party have shown a clear stance in favor of going to İmralı. The CHP, on the other hand, stated that if the issue comes to the commission's agenda, it will evaluate it within its party boards and make its decision as a result of these evaluations.
There is no definitive opposition from the AKP front. Party sources state that the decision will be made at the commission stage and that there is no "sharp objection." Another AKP figure shared the view that it could be "beneficial" to hear not only from Abdullah Öcalan but also from other founding cadres of the PKK terrorist organization.
MIT CHIEF KALIN TO BE HEARD
The commission plans to hear from National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Chief İbrahim Kalın next week.
