Photo of Eylem Tok's son Timur Cihantimur in prison emerges

Timur Cihantimur, the 17-year-old unlicensed driver who caused the death of Oğuz Murat Aci by hitting a group on the side of the road in Kemerburgaz, Istanbul, on March 1, was taken abroad by his mother, Eylem Tok.

A red notice has been issued for Tok and his son, who fled first to Egypt and then to the USA.

Fugitive Eylem Tok and her son Timur Cihantimur have been apprehended in Boston.

The court decided that the two individuals, who were brought before the Boston Federal Court, will remain in custody.

The next hearing has been postponed to June 27 at 16:00 TSI. Following the hearing for mother Tok, the hearing for Timur Cihantimur in juvenile court has also been postponed.

Journalist Emrullah Erdinç shared a photograph of Timur Cihantimur taken in prison.

Sharing a post from his X account, Erdinç used the following expressions:

“According to the information in the file at the juvenile detention center in the state of Connecticut where Timur Cihantimur is being held, it is stated that Cihantimur was brought there on June 14, 2024. Since his trial is ongoing, the sentencing section remains blank. The reason his age is listed as 16 in the file is that he will turn 17 on June 28. In other words, Timur Cihantimur’s birthday is in one week. Also, according to the information in the file, the phrase ‘Federal Crime’ is included.”

WEEDING AND CLEANING TOILETS

Cihantimur's lawyers, meanwhile, based their defense on the poor conditions Cihantimur is facing. Claiming that Timur Cihantimur, who is being held in a juvenile rehabilitation detention center, is being made to perform tasks such as weeding, and cleaning floors and toilets, the lawyers stated, "He is being held under very poor conditions in the reformatory. This child needs to be rehabilitated into society. He is struggling to perform the assigned tasks. We fear he may harm himself."

The requests of the lawyers, who also demanded that Cihantimur's location be changed if he is not released, were rejected by the judge.
