Prosecutor's office statement on the truck tragedy in Bornova: No skid marks at the scene

The accident occurred at approximately 16:30 in front of the 57th Artillery Brigade at the Evka-3 junction in the Bornova district.

According to the information obtained, the truck with license plate 45 KB 8376 lost control and crossed into the opposite lane.

The out-of-control truck caused a chain-reaction accident by colliding with 10 vehicles, including a police patrol car. Police officer Serkan Hızlı, who was on duty in the patrol car, was martyred in the accident, while another police officer in the same vehicle was seriously injured.

The driver of the truck that caused the accident and a motorcyclist also lost their lives at the scene.

In the accident, which resulted in a total of 3 deaths and 4 injuries, it was learned that one of the injured is in critical condition and their treatment is ongoing.

"No brake marks were found"

While an investigation into the incident has been launched by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 1 Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor and 2 Public Prosecutors were assigned to conduct examinations at the scene.

In the statement made by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that initial findings indicate no evidence of the truck braking at the accident scene.

Technical examinations by an expert committee composed of traffic and mechanical engineers are continuing both at the scene and on the vehicles involved in the accident.

On the other hand, it was reported that necessary research and investigations have been initiated regarding whether the load carried by the truck that caused the accident was excessively heavy, and that the investigation is being conducted in a multi-faceted manner.
