"Sales" rush for second-hand cars at dealerships: Last day is August 31
The sale of vehicles lacking General Safety Regulation (GSR II) equipment, such as emergency braking systems, rearview cameras, and driver fatigue detection, ends on August 31. While it is noted that stocks have not been depleted despite intense discounts and campaigns by dealerships, the second-hand model is on the agenda for vehicles remaining in the sector.
The deadline for vehicles not equipped with GSR II is August 31. Since the date the decision was announced, dealerships have implemented significant discounts to sell off the older-equipped cars in their inventory.
In addition to discounts, campaigns such as zero-interest loans and trade-in support have been launched. However, it is reported that dealerships still have vehicles in stock that do not comply with the European Union's safety regulation rules.
Industry representatives state that the ministry will not revise the date again. For this reason, it is emphasized that those considering purchasing a new vehicle should act quickly.
Speaking to the Türkiye newspaper, industry players say, "Many dealers sold cars with minimum profit and continue to do so. We have about 10 days left. We will sell what we can. Our biggest problem here is not being able to access credit. Banks have turned off the credit taps."
Stating that there is no clear information regarding what will happen to the remaining vehicles, industry representatives say, "According to the information we have received from the sector, it is said that dealers will sell the remaining vehicles among themselves and release them into the market as second-hand."
The General Safety Regulation (GSR II) is a regulation that mandates the inclusion of various safety packages in the standard equipment of vehicles, aiming to make vehicles safer.
In this context, the production and sale of vehicles that do not have the following features will end on August 31.
These features are as follows:
* Event data recorder
* Emergency braking system
* Driver drowsiness and attention warning system
* Reversing camera or parking distance sensor
* Emergency stop signal
* Alcohol interlock installation facilitation
* Intelligent speed assistance and traffic sign recognition system with cruise control
* Lane keeping assist
* 'Safety glass' windshield for pedestrian protection in frontal collisions
* Blind spot detection technology for large vehicles, warnings to prevent collisions, and tire pressure monitoring system
