Another scandal has emerged in the indictment prepared against the 'Newborn Gang,' which is accused of directing infant emergency patients to neonatal units of private hospitals and causing their deaths. According to the indictment, it is alleged that special-prescription psychiatric drugs were obtained under the counter and sold.
Striking details have emerged in the indictment prepared against individuals referred to as the 'Newborn Gang,' who are accused of directing emergency infant patients to the neonatal units of private hospitals they had agreements with, causing their deaths and generating illicit profits.
The indictment alleges that the suspects were informed in advance of inspections to be carried out at certain hospitals and made arrangements accordingly.
Drug Trafficking Allegation
According to the report by Cumhuriyet, the indictment highlights information that certain drugs, particularly those used for psychological treatment that create a narcotic effect, were obtained under the counter and sold.
The indictment, which states that drugs were smuggled and sold from the private Güney Hospital, mentions various names in connection with this issue. One statement included in the indictment reads as follows:
"Regarding the topics mentioned in the conversation contents, individuals named Renas and Fehmi were working together and referring infants to each other. Hüseyin and Doğukan smuggled and sold drugs from Güney Hospital between 2022 and 2023. The income they obtained from these sold drugs is approximately 1,000 TL. When I asked Doğukan about this situation, he told me that the hospital's psychiatry department set the examination fee at 1,500 TL and sold the drug named Lyrica under the counter, and that a male individual working in the hospital's pharmacy, who is a relative of the hospital owner named Müzeyyen (Ayşe Müzeyyen Yurtoğlu), also sold drugs in this manner."
Red-Prescription Drug Procurement
Another statement in the indictment contains allegations regarding the procurement and use of "Aldolan," a psychological drug that also creates a narcotic effect. The following details stood out in the statement in question:
"At Reyap Hospital, Sümeyye Nur Aslan and an individual working in the hospital's IT department were talking about altered charts under the instructions of Fırat Sarı. The drug named Aldolan, mentioned in the conversations, was being used constantly by Hakan Doğukan Taçcı.''
''They stated that this drug is sold with a red prescription and creates a narcotic effect. The drug was being obtained from individuals named Osman and Yalçın, who they said lived in Istanbul. They stated that they purchased the drug from Osman via a courier."
The indictment alleges that the suspects generated illicit profits by directing emergency infant patients to hospitals they had pre-arranged agreements with.
It is alleged that as a result of the cooperation with the authorities of the relevant hospitals, situations occurred that could lead to the deaths of infants. Within the scope of the investigation, the role of the hospitals in this process and the details of the suspects' actions have been taken under review.
