Siri overhaul to impact iPhone users

Apple is making a major move to redesign its digital assistant, Siri. The company is in the development phase of a next-generation system it calls 'LLM Siri' to compete with ChatGPT and other AI-based services. This more advanced and interactive version of Siri is planned to be released to users in 2026.

SIRI WILL BE MORE CONVERSATIONAL AFTER THE OVERHAUL

According to a report by Donanimhaber, the new Siri will be able to conduct more natural, human-like conversations using large language models (LLMs). It also aims to improve the user experience by responding to more complex requests faster. According to internal sources, this technology will replace the current Siri interface and will be announced alongside the iOS 19 and macOS 16 updates.

Apple has been testing this innovation for over a year. The new version of Siri will offer features such as text writing, summarizing, and more precise control over third-party applications. The technology will work integrated with the Apple Intelligence platform, which the company introduced this year.

IT WILL ESTABLISH A FLUID INTERACTION

Apple will add some new features to Siri as part of iOS 18 in the coming months. These features include the ability to detect commands based on information on the user's screen. However, the real revolution will take place in iOS 19, where Siri will use second-generation large language models.

This new system aims to catch up with the capabilities of competitors such as ChatGPT (which powers the iOS 18 Siri, though ChatGPT has not yet been added to Apple Intelligence) and Google Gemini.

Apple's focus during the development process is for Siri to establish a more fluid interaction with users. In this direction, the company recently posted job openings looking for experts in AI technologies and chat interfaces. The head of Siri's design team is Alan Dye, Apple's vice president of human interface design.
