Statement from the person alleged to have started the fire in Beykoz: 'I fired a flare for fun'
A 22-year-old suspect identified as A.A., who is alleged to have caused the fire in a wooded area in Beykoz, has been apprehended by police teams. It was learned that in his statement, the suspect said he fired the signal flare for fun and that he called 112 to report the fire as soon as he noticed it.
The fire occurred on July 28, 2025, at approximately 20:59 on Dedeoğlu Street in the Çubuklu neighborhood of Beykoz. Following the fire, teams from the Istanbul Police Department were dispatched to the area and launched an investigation. It was determined that approximately 200 square meters of land were damaged in the incident.
In their investigation of the surrounding area, police teams determined that the fire started as a result of a signal flare falling and that the flare had been fired from the vicinity of Sarıkaya Street in the Çiğdem neighborhood, located on the opposite slope.
During a search of addresses, it was determined that an individual named A.A. resided in one of the houses in the area.
In his statement, the individual named A.A. said that he had fired a signal flare for fun, and that upon noticing the fire starting in the forest opposite, he called 112 to report it. A.A., who voluntarily surrendered the signal flare he used in the incident, was taken into custody by police teams and brought to the police station.
Suspect A.A. will be referred to judicial authorities on July 29, 2025, following the completion of the investigation procedures.
