A fire that broke out during the night at the Grand Kartal Hotel, located in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Center, has led to a major tragedy. According to the latest information, 10 people lost their lives and 32 people were injured in the fire.

It was reported that the fire spread rapidly from the wooden cladding on the hotel's exterior and that some of the 237 guests at the hotel tried to descend from the windows using bed sheets.

In the footage shared on social media, trapped citizens can be heard calling for help in fear, shouting things like "Where do we get out?", "I can't get down", and "Help me".

MANY COMPLAINTS HAD BEEN FILED

The hotel's inadequate infrastructure had been voiced repeatedly by guests who stayed there in the past. Among the visitors' complaints were the lack of maintenance at the hotel and frequent instances of being stranded due to technical malfunctions during skiing.

Many people stated that despite the hotel's 40-year history, the necessary investments had not been made.

The Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident, while Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced in a statement that 6 public prosecutors have been assigned and a 5-person expert committee has been formed.

The fire has also brought up questions regarding whether there were deficiencies in the hotel's fire safety measures and emergency exit routes.
