1917 - The newspaper Vakit began publication by Ahmet Emin Yalman and Asım Us.

1919 - The Amasya Protocol was signed in Amasya between Mustafa Kemal Pasha and Salih Hulusi Kezrak, the Minister of the Navy of the Istanbul Government.

1931 - American mafia leader Al Capone was sentenced to 11 years in prison for tax evasion.

1937 - The uprising that began in the Tunceli region on the night of March 21 was suppressed. The Law on the Administration of Tunceli, enacted for four years, continued until 1947 with various amendments.

1953 - Laos declared its independence from France.

1975 - Turkey's Ambassador to Vienna, Hüseyin Daniş Tunalıgil, was killed in an assassination carried out by three militants belonging to the Justice Commandos of the Armenian Genocide in Vienna, where he was serving.
