Toilet fee in Euros

Mermerli Beach, located in Antalya's historic Kaleiçi Marina, has resumed operations following a renovation process. However, the different pricing applied at the toilets located nearby, which belong to the beach operator, has drawn attention.

While the sign hung on the wall lists the usage fee as "1 Euro," it was observed that in practice, 30 TL is charged to Turkish citizens, while 1 Euro is charged to foreign tourists. The operating hours for the toilet have been set from 08:00 to 22:00.

"IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FREE"

Evaluating the toilet fees, Merve Mavi, one of the citizens, stated, "At least they could offer a bit more of a discount or it could be free.

Because the beach belongs to the public. Also, I found it to be quite expensive, frankly. It is very unnecessary. Separate prices for tourists and Turks, that is also not right. It could be provided for free. It would be better if it were provided as a free service," she said.

PRICES AT THE BEACH HAD MADE HEADLINES

The 1,000 TL per person entrance fee at Mermerli Beach, which opened during the Eid al-Adha holiday, had caused public backlash.

Receipts shared on social media showed that the total entrance fee for two people was 2,000 TL. Following the intervention of the Antalya Governor's Office, the sunbed rental fee was fixed at 500 TL at the beach, which had remained closed for a short time due to renovations.

"15 MILLION TL ANNUAL REVENUE GENERATED"

In a statement detailing the work regarding Mermerli Beach and its surroundings, the Antalya Governor's Office stated that the beach was leased for an annual fee of 15 million TL plus VAT, and that the condition that it "would be a public-facing business" was recorded in the protocol.

The statement also noted that a total of 64.7 million TL was spent on restoration and landscaping.
