Fenix FC, a team composed entirely of transgender individuals, played its first match in the Catalan regional league. The team suffered a historic defeat in its debut.
The club, founded by Hugo Martinez, was forced to withdraw its women's football team due to harassment and prejudice encountered during the transfer process.
Martinez said, "I was a kid playing on the girls' team. I wasn't allowed to play with the boys until my identity was changed."
According to a report by Haber Global, Martinez, who stated that he received threats from other players, coaches, and families, later planned to create a free space.
He found about 30 volunteers. After 3 years of work, Fenix FC was founded.
The team competing in the men's league is composed entirely of trans men.
The Catalan Football Federation has granted the team permission to participate in the league.
Thus, the team made history as the first trans team to play in European leagues.
The score the team received thus became the largest margin of defeat ever suffered by a trans team.
In Turkey, however, there is no trans club.
