Urban transformation reveals: Building with no walls on the 4th and 5th floors

The incident occurred around 18:00 on İnönü Street in the Güven neighborhood of Istanbul's Güngören district. According to the information obtained, a demolition was being carried out on a building on the street as part of urban transformation efforts. During the demolition, it was discovered that the bathroom walls on the 4th and 5th floors of the adjacent 5-story building were missing, and holes had also formed in the living room of the apartment on the 3rd floor.

Upon the notification of the apartment residents, police and municipal police teams were dispatched to the scene. While there were no injuries in the incident, municipal teams conducted an assessment. Following the work, the demolition was paused for a while. On the other hand, it was learned that the damaged 5-story building had already received a risky structure report before the demolition started next door. The damaged building has been evacuated.

"THE 4TH AND 5TH FLOOR BATHROOM WALLS WERE MISSING"

Speaking about the issue, building resident Orhan Yaylacıkoral said, "I am one of the residents of the building. Unfortunately, it turns out our 4th and 5th-floor bathroom walls were missing. Those walls were actually the walls of the adjacent building. While they were being demolished, the excavator accidentally damaged the apartments below as well. Such things can happen during demolition. Friends from the municipality came. Thank God, they took care of it. They will conduct a detailed study regarding these costs tomorrow. Everyone's expenses will be paid. Whatever needs to be done will be done.

Two small holes were opened in our living room. Naturally, the inside was filled with dust and smoke. Tomorrow, they will have the carpets and sofas washed. The holes will be closed. We have such an agreement. A demolition order had already been issued for our building as well. We don't want to pressure the other friends too much. If the expenses are covered, we will all move out together," he said.
