Victor Osimhen gives statement to police regarding his transfer
Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen has given a statement to the police regarding the ongoing investigation into his transfer process from Lille to Napoli.
Victor Osimhen, who currently plays for Galatasaray, has given a statement regarding the investigation launched into his 2020 transfer from Lille to Napoli. Osimhen's remarks were recorded in police transcripts and shared with the press.
Here are Osimhen's words...
"MY MIND WAS NOT ON FOOTBALL AT THAT TIME"
"My previous agent (Jean Gerard) told me that Napoli had serious interest. But he was only interested in my transfer, not my father's health condition. At that time, my mind was not on football; I just wanted to learn about my father's situation."
"I KNEW NOTHING"
"Gerard called me to meet in Nice. Luis Campos (then-sporting director of Lille) and Lille president Gerard Lopez were also there. They told me that I had to transfer to Napoli, that a general agreement had been reached, and that it was a good opportunity for Lille due to the pandemic. But I knew nothing about it."
"I WAS VERY ANGRY AT LILLE AND MY AGENT AFTER MY FATHER'S DEATH"
"After my father's death, I was very angry at Lille and my agent because I hadn't been able to see my father before he passed away. They even told me that I had to go to Napoli one day after my father's death. Out of respect for the Lille president, I went to Napoli, but I wasn't going to sign anything. First, I met with the head coach, and he explained the project to me. The next day, I met with De Laurentiis in Capri. He talked to me about the city and the club, but I didn't understand what they were discussing with Giuntoli (Cristiano Giuntoli - then-Napoli Sporting Director) because they were speaking Italian. They asked me if I had seen the contract, but I hadn't understood anything."
"I RETURNED TO THE HOTEL AND SAW THE AGREEMENT PAPER"
"When I returned to the hotel, I asked my agent for the draft contract. He told me there was no contract. I was surprised because the president had said otherwise. Finally, he showed me a so-called agreement paper made with Napoli. I got angry and wanted to return to France. I asked Lopez for a week's leave and went to Paris. Then, when I returned to Lille, I decided to cut ties with that agent."
"I SIGNED IN FRONT OF EVERYONE"
"When I saw that Napoli was genuinely interested in me, I asked William D'Avila to handle my transfer. At the end of July, I signed the contract in the presence of D'Avila, Lopez, Ingla, Calenda, and Cros, among others, on behalf of Napoli and Maurizio Micheli."
"I HAD REQUESTED A LOAN FOR MY HOUSEHOLD NEEDS"
Osimhen also touched upon his relationship with his current agent, Roberto Calenda, at the end of 2021:
"In December 2021, I requested a loan of 550 thousand euros for my family needs. I promised that I would pay this money back."
