The investigation into Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma and the primary election on March 23 were discussed at the CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting. The party leadership has clarified what steps will be taken in the event of a possible diploma cancellation. Here are the details...
The CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) met with the agenda of the investigation launched into Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma and the presidential primary election to be held on March 23. During the meeting, the strategy to be followed against the diploma crisis was clarified.
According to information reported by ANKA, the CHP leadership recalled that the period for appealing administrative decisions is 60 days and concluded that the cancellation of İmamoğlu's diploma is not seen as legally possible. However, it was stated that a roadmap has been prepared against a possible cancellation decision.
IMPACT ON THE PRIMARY ELECTION PROCESS
According to information obtained from CHP sources, it was emphasized that the primary election calendar would continue uninterrupted in the event of the cancellation of Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma. While the party leadership stated that the campaign process would be accelerated, it was shared that the ongoing diploma debate has not produced a result in favor of the AKP, and that in the latest public opinion polls, İmamoğlu is 3.5 points ahead of his rival.
It was stated that a high turnout is expected for the primary election to be held on March 23. It was noted that more than 1 million CHP members are expected to head to the polls.
On the other hand, the details of the legal process to be followed against a possible cancellation decision regarding İmamoğlu's diploma have also been clarified.
According to the information note prepared by İmamoğlu's lawyer, Mehmet Pehlivan, following a cancellation decision, applications will be made to administrative courts, and the process will be carried to the Council of State.
Furthermore, arguing that the diploma investigation is a form of judicial harassment, applications will be made to the Constitutional Court (AYM) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
In addition, it was stated that because this initiative is considered a political move aimed at preventing İmamoğlu's presidential candidacy, criminal complaints will be filed against public officials who sign unlawful decisions for the crimes of 'misconduct in office' and 'attempting to abolish the Constitution'.
