Famous fashion designer Barbaros Şansal was detained at Istanbul Airport by the decision of the İzmir 11th Criminal Court of First Instance.

The designer, who was detained by police the moment he set foot in Turkey, shared his situation with his followers on social media.

Barbaros Şansal was detained by police the moment he set foot in Turkey, within the scope of an arrest warrant issued by the İzmir 11th Criminal Court of First Instance.

In a post he shared on social media, Şansal shared the situation with his followers, stating, "Fresh off the plane, as soon as I landed, İzmir 11th Criminal Court GBT (General Information Gathering) Arrest! Istanbul Airport".

WHO IS BARBAROS ŞANSAL?

Born in 1957 in Turkey's capital, Ankara, as the child of Sungur Tekin Şansal and Güner Eczacıbaşı, Şansal was educated at Şişli Private Dost Primary School, Yeşilköy Halil Vedat Fıratlı Boarding Primary School, Site College, Istanbul German High School, İzmir Fatih College, İstanbul Vefa High School, İstanbul Maltepe High School, Istanbul Fenerbahçe High School, and Marmara University Faculty of Business Administration, and completed his education in London. In addition to his fashion designer persona, he is known for his advocacy for LGBT rights and his anti-war stance.

He hosted the programs "Toplu iğne" (Common Pin) on Habertürk and "Çengel iğne" (Safety Pin) on Skytürk. He wrote a book titled "3. SINIF HAMUR KAĞIDA MÜREKKEBİ HAYATLAR" (Ink Lives on 3rd Class Pulp Paper).

He also translated and published the book "101 Things I Learned in Fashion School" written by authors Matthew Frederick and Alfredo Cabrera into Turkish.

He taught "Fashion History" courses at Marmara University and Ankara Başkent University.

In May 2015, he was detained upon entry to the TRNC at Ercan International Airport and brought before the Nicosia District Court. In November 2015, he was sentenced to one month in prison by the court he appeared before.
