Why did the Saraçhane rallies come to an end?

Following the detention and arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, the CHP began organizing a rally every evening in front of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality building in Saraçhane. From the very first day, Özgür Özel and the CHP leadership decided not to leave Saraçhane until an acting Mayor of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was elected.

Speakers at the rallies included CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, as well as figures such as Ekrem İmamoğlu's wife Dilek İmamoğlu, Mansur Yavaş, and Muharrem İnce.

The Saraçhane rallies, which began on the evening of March 19, ended on the evening of Tuesday, March 25. On Wednesday, March 26, CHP Municipal Council Member Nuri Aslan was elected as the acting Mayor of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to replace Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Özgür Özel, who had stayed at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality building for a week, handed over the position to Nuri Aslan and left the building. After Nuri Aslan took office, the Saraçhane rallies came to an end.

The CHP has decided to diversify its demonstrations and rallies moving forward. The first of these will be held in Maltepe on Saturday, March 29, at 12:00 PM.
