Will retirees receive a bonus on October 29? Expert explains

With October 29 Republic Day approaching, the question of "Will a holiday bonus be given?" is on the agenda for retirees.

Murat Tokgöz, President of the Mamak Branch of the Turkey Retirees Association (TÜED), recently stated that the 5,000 lira one-time payment made to retirees as part of the Republic's 100th anniversary should be made permanent.

Under normal circumstances, retirees receive a holiday bonus for every Ramadan and Eid al-Adha.

In 2024, a total of 6,000 lira in retirement bonuses was paid to retirees, consisting of 3,000 lira in April before Ramadan and 3,000 lira in June.

In 2023, retirees benefited for the first time from a 5,000 lira bonus specifically for Republic Day. So, will retirees be given a holiday bonus on October 29?

IS THERE A BONUS PAYMENT FOR RETIREES ON OCTOBER 29?

SGK expert İsa Karakaş explained whether there would be a bonus payment for retirees on October 29. The SGK expert noted the following in his article:

"Last year, a bonus was given to all 15 million 120 thousand retirees and beneficiaries without discrimination. All payment processes were concluded by the middle of December, depending on the retirement status and allocation number. However, unlike the Ramadan and Eid al-Adha bonuses, these payments were made on a one-time basis. For an October 29 bonus to be given this year, it is essential that a law be enacted. So far, no legislative proposal has been prepared in this direction, nor has any instruction been given by our President for one to be prepared!.. On the other hand, the economic administration does not look favorably upon this payment in order to ensure that the currently implemented anti-inflation program is not disrupted."
