Gaza protest against Kamala Harris: 'How many children did you kill today?'

With only days left until the presidential election on November 5 in the U.S., Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris held an election rally in the capital, Washington. Addressing her supporters at the same location where her Republican rival and former president Trump spoke before the Capitol riot organized by his supporters on January 6, 2021, Harris argued that Trump divides the country, while she would be a unifier. Harris was protested due to the unconditional support the U.S. provides to Israel, which continues its attacks on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

According to Anadolu Agency, tens of thousands of people attended the rally held at "The Ellipse," the site where then-President Donald Trump spoke before the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Attacking her rival Trump in her speech, Harris said that only she and her team could solve the fundamental problems of the U.S., while Trump would only bring 'chaos' and 'crisis'.

Harris said, "Donald Trump has spent a decade trying to keep the American people divided and afraid of each other; that is who he is. But I am here tonight to say: That is not who we are. I pledge to be a president for all Americans and to always put country above party." Stating, "We know who Trump is," the U.S. Vice President added that then-President Trump sent an 'armed mob' to the Capitol building to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. Referring to Trump, Harris said, "He is unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed by grievance, and out for unchecked power."

Arguing that the economic prescriptions proposed by Donald Trump would harm middle- and low-income groups, Kamala Harris also said that under her economic plan, more people would be able to become homeowners under easier conditions and that she would reduce the tax burden on the middle class.

Meanwhile, as Democratic candidate Harris continued her speech, a large group of approximately 300 people chanted slogans in favor of Palestine and Gaza and protested the President Joe Biden-Harris administration.

Pro-Palestinian protesters, carrying banners demanding an arms embargo on Israel, chanted, "Kamala, what do you say? We won't vote for you on election day. How many children did you kill today?"

The group, which continued its protest until the end of Harris's speech, later marched to the street where the White House is located, accompanied by banners and slogans.

Recent public opinion polls in the U.S. point to a neck-and-neck race for the election on Tuesday, November 5. While the latest poll results published by The New York Times (NYT) last week indicated that both candidates would receive 48 percent of the vote, the latest poll published by Reuters/Ipsos revealed that Harris's 3-point lead over Trump has begun to erode. While the previous poll by the two institutions indicated that Harris would receive 46 percent and Trump 43 percent, according to the results of the latest poll released yesterday evening, Harris is expected to receive 44 percent and Trump 43 percent. While Harris has consistently led in the polls conducted by Reuters/Ipsos since September, it is observed that this gap has continued to close over the weeks.
