Gendarmerie tracks down bones found by the highway

Following the discovery of animal bones discarded in the area near the highway service road in the Horozlar neighborhood of Sakarya's Erenler district, both in past years and recently, the Provincial Gendarmerie Command initiated technical and physical surveillance in the region.

As a result of technical work carried out by the Erenler District Gendarmerie Command, the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch Directorate, and the Environmental and Nature Protection Team, it was determined on January 26 that individuals arriving in the area in a covered pickup truck were dumping remains, believed to be horse and donkey bones, into a brush-covered area. Following an examination of camera footage and field investigations by the teams, the suspects were identified as C.T. (48), H.T. (23), and S.T. (47).

The suspects were apprehended and detained in an operation conducted by gendarmerie teams. Searches of the suspects' addresses and a barn believed to be used for slaughtering activities led to the discovery of 5 horses waiting to be slaughtered.

The seized horses were handed over to teams from the Sapanca District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. It was reported that judicial proceedings have been initiated against the detained individuals, identified as C.T. and H.T., for "Violation of the Animal Protection Law."
