Has the new resolution process reached its end? Cem Küçük explains: Erdoğan is preparing to intervene
Despite the call for Öcalan to lay down arms in the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process, which began with Bahçeli's call, the PKK is not convening its congress. The organization's latest statement highlighted a demand for a 'federation.' While there are comments that the process has stalled, pro-government columnist Cem Küçük commented on the situation. Küçük stated that Erdoğan is not at all pleased with the recent developments. Küçük also said that Erdoğan will intervene in the process in the near future.
The new Imralı process, initiated by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli on October 22 with the goal of a 'Terror-Free Turkey,' has reached a stalemate despite Abdullah Öcalan's February 27 call for the organization to lay down its arms and dissolve itself.
This call, made after three meetings between the DEM Party and Imralı, has not received a clear response from the PKK front.
NO CONGRESS
While the PKK was expected to hold a congress in response to the call, no such meeting has been convened yet. In this process, following a meeting held by organization officials last Saturday, a statement was released expressing that 'conditions in Imralı must change,' while the declaration also drew attention for its demand for a 'federation.' This situation has sparked debates in Ankara over whether the process has come to an end.
TERROR ORGANIZATION PUTS ÖCALAN FORWARD IN DECISION-MAKING MECHANISM
While the organization is dragging its feet on convening a congress, it argues that Öcalan should manage the process directly. However, Turkey has clearly stated that the priority is for the terrorist organization PKK to completely lay down its arms and dissolve itself.
ERDOĞAN WILL INTERVENE
Journalist Cem Küçük, known for his proximity to the government line, said that President Erdoğan's patience regarding the process is running out. Speaking on TGRT, Küçük stated that 'the PKK is stalling the disarmament process,' noting that Erdoğan always views the summer months as a red-line period and that he 'will not wait long.' Küçük said, 'If a clear decision is not made by May, the fight against terrorism will continue with determination. Furthermore, the possibility of an operation in Syria is high.'
Mümtaz’er Türköne, known for his proximity to Bahçeli, put forward a more striking claim regarding the process. Türköne suggested that Erdoğan is not pleased with the process and is preparing to end it on his own initiative.
However, in response, he claimed that MHP leader Bahçeli might put the early election card on the table following such a move by Erdoğan. Bahçeli had denied these statements by Türköne.
