Imam and muezzin drown in pond in Artvin
In the Arhavi district of Artvin, an imam and a muezzin who were in danger of drowning after entering a pond to cool off have died at the hospital where they were taken.
According to the information obtained, Mustafa Gedikli (35), the muezzin of Arhavi Central Mosque, and Rüstem Özdemir (27), the imam of Güneşli Mosque, entered a pond to cool off.
After a while, citizens who noticed that the two individuals were motionless in the water reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center.
Upon the notification, health, fire department, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area.
Gedikli and Özdemir, who were pulled from the water, received initial intervention at the scene.
The two religious officials were then taken to Arhavi State Hospital by ambulance, but despite all efforts by doctors, they could not be saved and lost their lives.
An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
