Mob attack on female reporter while on duty caught on camera: 'We'll tear you to pieces'

According to the information obtained, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene following a report that a person had fallen from a building on Barış Street in the Kuruçeşme Fatih neighborhood. Upon examination by health teams, it was determined that Hacı Ahmet Kurt, who had fallen from a height, had lost his life. İhlas News Agency (İHA) reporter Fehime Kartal, who was in the area to perform her duties, became the target of a large group identified as relatives of the deceased. The group, which included women, surrounded the reporter and hurled verbal insults and profanities.

"THIS NEWS WILL NOT BE SHARED"

As the tension escalated quickly, one person in the group forcibly took the reporter's mobile phone from her hand, accessed the journalist's work group, and wrote a message stating, "This news will not be shared." The female reporter, who had been surrounded, was escorted away by police who arrived at the scene later. Despite the reporter moving away, an attacker who broke through the group threatened her by saying, "I will find where you are."

"WE WILL TEAR YOU TO PIECES"

In the released security camera footage, reporter Fehime Kartal is seen arriving at the scene and taking a short, distant shot with her mobile phone. At that moment, a woman from the crowd is heard reacting to the reporter by saying, "Why are you filming? Is this a crime scene investigation?" and then threatening her by saying, "If we see this on social media, we will tear you to pieces here."

Immediately following the threat, individuals, including the woman, approach Kartal. One person in the group forcibly takes the reporter's mobile phone. During the scuffle, another woman is seen hitting the reporter's camera and hand; meanwhile, the person who took the phone and used it as if it were their own is seen answering an incoming call.

The recordings also show that the reporter was unsuccessful in her persistent attempts to get her phone back. In the final part of the video, an angry man is seen shouting "Let go" to those trying to stop him, walking toward the reporter, and hurling severe insults.

The reporter has filed a complaint against the individuals, and the Kocaeli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident.
