Prosecutor presents opinion on day 9 of hotel fire trial: Request for arrest and house arrest

The prosecution has presented its opinion in the ongoing trial regarding the Grand Kartal Hotel fire in Bolu. During the hearing, while the continuation of house arrest was requested for some defendants, an arrest warrant was demanded for two others.

In the hearing held at the Bolu 1st High Criminal Court, the prosecutor presented their opinion on the merits regarding the Grand Kartal Hotel fire.

In the opinion, it was requested that the house arrest measure currently applied to defendants being tried without detention—Mudurnu A.Ş. owner İbrahim Polat, Mudurnu A.Ş. official İsmail Karagöz, reception staff member Yiğithan Burak Çetin, firefighter İrfan Acar, and FQC Inspection Company owner Ali Ağaoğlu—be continued.

PROSECUTION PRESENTS OPINION

The prosecution further stated that LPG installation maintenance worker Doğan Aydın continued maintenance activities between 2018 and 2022 while knowing that the Grand Kartal Hotel's internal and external LPG installations were unpermitted and without cutting off the gas flow.

For this reason, Aydın was found to be heavily at fault by the prosecution. It was presented in the opinion that Occupational Health and Safety Specialist Kübra Demir was also heavily at fault, as she knew about the deficiencies at the hotel during her tenure between 2014 and 2021 but failed to report them to the relevant authorities.
