A guide to preparing mulled wine at home

First appearing in Isabelle Beeton's 1861 work 'Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management', mulled wine is now generally consumed during the winter months.

Known for its strong antioxidant effects, mulled wine is absorbed into the bloodstream faster than other beverages.

What are the ingredients for mulled wine, and how is it prepared?

MULLED WINE INGREDIENTS

-1 liter of red wine

-1 apple

-200cl (one glass) of water

-4 to 6 cloves (you can increase or decrease this as desired)

-12-15 sugar cubes

-3-4 cinnamon sticks

-Half a slice of orange

-Half a slice of lemon

HOW TO MAKE MULLED WINE

-Grate the apple and place it in a bowl. Grate the peels of the lemon and orange.

-After grating the peels, slice the lemon and orange and add them to the wine.

-Boil the cinnamon, sugar, apple, lemon, orange, and cloves with 1 glass of water.

-Let this mixture you boiled cool down and start heating your pot of wine over low heat.

-Once your wine begins to warm up, add the mixture you left to cool into your wine and continue heating over low heat.

-Your mulled wine is ready to serve.
