Beware of sun allergy! Important warnings from an expert for the summer months
With the arrival of summer, complaints of sun allergy are on the rise. Experts point out the importance of protection against the sun and emphasize that symptoms such as itching and redness on the skin should not be ignored.
Düzce Atatürk State Hospital Dermatology Specialist Dr. İnci Deniz İnanç stated that cases of sun allergy have increased due to the effect of hot weather. Dr. İnanç expressed that there has been an increase in the number of people applying to the hospital in recent days with complaints of itching, redness, and rashes. Stating that sun allergy usually manifests as redness, itching, and bumps on the skin, İnanç said that this condition is seen more frequently in individuals with a genetic predisposition. She added that these symptoms are more common on the face, arms, legs, and hands, which are more exposed to the sun, especially at the beginning of the summer months.
Dr. İnanç stated that ultraviolet A (UVA) rays trigger sun allergy and recommended the use of sunscreens with at least 50 SPF protection. She emphasized that these creams should be applied half an hour before going out into the sun and renewed every 2-3 hours. She also noted that shaded areas should be preferred when going outside and that the sun should be avoided between 10:00 and 16:00.

Stating that it would be healthier to go out intermittently rather than being directly exposed to the sun, İnanç said that taking a lukewarm shower and moisturizing the skin after sun exposure is important for skin health.
