Expert warns: Don't be fooled by the Indian summer!

'Indian summer', as it is known in our country, has brought temperatures above seasonal norms.

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Fatma Cömert stated that the Indian summer should be viewed as days of false summer, adding, "We need to pay more attention to our health during these days we are experiencing."

Pointing out that the Indian summer is the most dangerous period of the seasons, Specialist Dr. Cömert expressed that diseases appear more frequently during these times.

'IMMUNE SYSTEM COLLAPSES'

Stating that summer clothes are being worn especially because winter has not yet fully made its presence felt, Specialist Dr. Fatma Cömert said, "Despite a bright sky and sun at noon, a winter chill sets in after the sun goes down in the evening. The sudden drop in temperature catches those who thin out their clothing due to the daytime sun off guard, and the immune system practically collapses. We are seeing a serious increase in the number of people applying to us with a diagnosis of flu-like infections. These types of ailments are even more common in young bodies," she said.

'KEEP A JACKET OR CARDIGAN WITH YOU'

Reminding people not to let their guard down in such sunny weather that makes them happy, Dr. Fatma Cömert said, "Let us not be lazy about taking precautions against sudden weather changes during the day. We must absolutely keep a jacket or cardigan with us. Especially let us take this precaution for our children as well. They are affected by this situation more. We should take care to consume high-calorie foods and drink plenty of fluids," she spoke.
