Experts warn against setting multiple alarms
Many people who struggle to wake up in the morning start their day by setting multiple alarms. However, experts point out that this habit has negative effects on our health.
Many people choose to set multiple alarms because they have difficulty waking up in the morning. However, contrary to popular belief, this common habit is not beneficial; on the contrary, it is harmful. In a video shared on social media, nurse Jordan Bruss stated that setting constant alarms disrupts sleep patterns and causes an increase in stress hormones.
With every alarm sound, the body triggers a "fight or flight" response. This leads to elevated cortisol levels, disruption of the sleep cycle, and fatigue that lasts throughout the day. Frequent interruption of REM sleep causes problems such as fatigue, mood swings, and mental fog.
Experts note that while hitting the snooze button may seem to provide short-term relief, it actually prolongs sleep inertia and causes you to start the day feeling more tired.
ADVICE FROM EXPERTS
- Make it a habit to set a single alarm and get up as soon as it goes off.
- Establish a regular sleep schedule, including on weekends, and try to go to bed and wake up at the same times.
- Let natural light in during the morning; try not to close the curtains completely.
- Before going to bed, stay away from bright screens and engage in calming activities such as reading a book or doing breathing exercises.
- Limit caffeine and alcohol consumption in the evening hours.
