Measles outbreak grows in that country: Number of children who died rises to 409

There has been a significant increase in the number of children dying from measles in Bangladesh since the middle of last March. In the latest announcement made by health authorities, it was reported that the total death toll has risen to 409, based on confirmed and suspected cases.

According to data shared by the Directorate General of Health Services, 11 more children who were diagnosed with measles or showed symptoms of the disease have lost their lives in the last 24 hours. Officials stated that while four of these children were confirmed to have contracted the disease through laboratory tests, seven children were among the suspected cases.

This rapid increase in child deaths has prompted health authorities to take action, especially in the last two months. While it was announced that the total number of deaths since March 15 is 409, this situation has caused concern in the country.

Following the alarming deaths, the Bangladeshi government launched an emergency vaccination campaign nationwide as of April 7. Experts point out that measles can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). Despite vaccination efforts worldwide, measles continues to be one of the leading causes of child mortality. Authorities are warning families, especially regarding the vaccination of their children.
