New decision for private medical centers: Planned cesarean sections are now banned!
The Ministry of Health has banned planned cesarean sections without medical necessity in private medical centers. With the new regulation, standards for maternity units have been set, record systems will be moved to a digital environment, and inspections will be tightened.
The Ministry of Health has implemented an important regulation covering private healthcare institutions to encourage natural births. With the new regulation published in the Official Gazette, planned cesarean sections without medical necessity will no longer be permitted in private medical centers.
Prepared within the framework of the "Healthy Century of Turkey" program, this regulation introduces a requirement to establish a maternity unit in medical centers that wish to perform births. However, maternity units will not be permitted in centers that do not have an operating room.
The prominent articles in the published regulation are listed as follows:
Ban on planned cesarean sections: Unless a medical justification is provided, cesarean sections can no longer be performed.
Maternity unit standards: It is required that delivery rooms be at least 16 square meters in size, located in a position with easy access to the operating room, and situated away from main circulation areas.
Digital record system: All records related to births will be kept in an electronic environment and integrated into a central notification system.
Tightening of inspections: The compliance of medical practices with scientific standards will be audited regularly and more strictly.
Surgical unit facility: Centers with 10 or more specialist doctors will be allowed to establish a surgical intervention unit.
