New law on the way: Smoking to be banned in parks and on beaches
Smoking in children's playgrounds and on beaches will be completely banned under a new draft law. This regulation aims to prevent passive smoking and protect children from tobacco smoke.
As measures regarding smoking in public spaces continue to tighten, a new draft law currently being prepared includes significant changes. According to the plan, many open and semi-open areas will be classified as "enclosed spaces," and smoking will be prohibited in these areas.
CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUNDS AND BEACHES ALSO INCLUDED
According to a report by Melis Sander from NTV, among the most notable innovations introduced by the regulation is the inclusion of children's playgrounds and beaches in the ban. By preventing smoking in these areas, the aim is to reduce the harmful effects, particularly on children and young people.
EXPERTS WARN ABOUT PASSIVE SMOKING
Experts emphasize that passive smoking can lead to serious health problems. Pediatrician Dr. Şebnem Aliyeva stated, "Smoke from cigarettes smoked in open areas makes children passive smokers." Aliyeva added, "The smoke from a cigarette smoked in a park, on a balcony, or while walking goes directly into the respiratory tracts of children around us and can cause asthma, bronchitis, frequent infections, coughing, and allergic diseases in them."
INSPECTIONS WILL INCREASE, PENALTIES TO BE ANNOUNCED
With this new regulation, areas of common public use, especially children's playgrounds, will be considered within a "red line" zone, and smoking will be completely prohibited in these locations. It has been reported that authorities will increase inspections to enforce the ban and that the details of the penalties to be applied for rule violations will be shared with the public in the near future.
