New regulation on smoking in indoor areas is on the way

Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu announced that a much more effective era will begin in 2026 against tobacco addiction, digital habits, and unhealthy nutrition. Minister Memişoğlu stated that they are focusing on legal regulations, particularly to prevent tobacco consumption in indoor areas, and that these efforts are nearing completion.

Emphasizing that the effectiveness of mobile teams working in the field, as well as smoking cessation clinics, will be increased as part of the Ministry's inclusive approach, Memişoğlu gave a message of determination in the fight against addictions in this new period.

“We are currently working on it. In addition to our smoking cessation clinics and mobile teams in the field, we are conducting work in terms of legislation, especially regarding tobacco. With this work, we will essentially make the fight against tobacco addiction much more effective. We are doing a good job regarding legislation on the use of tobacco and cigarettes in indoor areas. Hopefully, we will bring this to the agenda of Parliament in a short time. With the approval of our President, we need to make the fight in this area much more effective,” he stated.

Memişoğlu also underlined that tobacco use is not just an individual issue but a social responsibility. As a result of the work carried out by the Ministry, it is aimed to better protect public health by preventing smoking in indoor areas. Additional steps are planned to facilitate access to smoking cessation services and to expand these services.

With the new legislation coming to the agenda of Parliament, it is expected that the rules regarding smoking in indoor areas will become even clearer and sanctions will be increased. It is observed that the public is closely following the effects of the new regulations.
