Nutrition advice for LGS and YKS candidates
Dietitian Nevin Bilici offered nutritional recommendations for LGS and YKS candidates. Bilici stated, "Stay away from new foods, caffeinated drinks, and sugary, fatty, and salty foods before the exam."
The countdown has begun for the High School Entrance System (LGS) and the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). Dietitian Nevin Bilici provided nutritional recommendations for candidates taking the LGS exam this weekend and the YKS exam next weekend.
Highlighting the importance of proper nutrition to reduce the effects of exam stress and to perform at one's best on exam day, Bilici offered the following advice to students:
"Do not consume any food you have not tried before the day before the exam. It may lead to complaints such as allergic reactions or diarrhea. Tea and coffee you drink the night before the exam may cause you to lose sleep or have difficulty falling asleep. Instead of consuming tea and coffee, prefer herbal teas like lemon balm or chamomile for a good night's sleep and to help you relax," she said.
LISTED FOODS TO AVOID
Emphasizing the importance of a balanced breakfast on the morning of the exam, Dietitian Nevin Bilici said, "Make sure to have a balanced breakfast that will keep you full on the morning of the exam. In addition to eggs and cheese, consume healthy fats such as walnuts, hazelnuts, and olives. Choose whole-grain bread. And add tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, which are rich in Vitamin C, to your breakfast plate. Pair it with a glass of milk. However, only take this advice into account if you already have a habit of drinking milk. On the morning of the exam, do not consume simple sugary foods like jam, honey, or chocolate spread that will cause sudden fluctuations in blood sugar. Avoid fatty and salty foods like fried items, sucuk, or pastrami that will make you excessively thirsty during the exam. Water consumption should also be at an adequate level," she stated.
