Physicians to hold a 'white march' from Haydarpaşa to Kadıköy

Healthcare workers in Istanbul will hold a march from Haydarpaşa to Kadıköy today to demand improvements in working conditions and an end to violence in healthcare. Physicians will come together to defend their professional rights and draw attention to the principles of 'good medical practice'.

'WHITE MARCH' FROM HAYDARPAŞA TO KADIKÖY

Healthcare workers will carry out a 'white march' in Istanbul today from Haydarpaşa toward Kadıköy. During the march, demands will be voiced for the improvement of working conditions in the health sector, an end to violence in healthcare, and the protection of physicians' professional rights.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, physicians will emphasize the need to protect the concept of 'good medical practice' by drawing attention to the core values of the profession during the march.

'WE ARE STRONG TOGETHER TO DEFEND THE VALUES OF GOOD MEDICAL PRACTICE'

Istanbul Medical Chamber Board President Osman Küçükosmanoğlu stated that the main slogan of the march is 'We are strong together to defend the values of good medical practice'. Küçükosmanoğlu noted that one of the most significant problems physicians face is their personal rights.

Expressing that the performance-based system implemented in the public sector negatively affects the quality of healthcare services, Küçükosmanoğlu said, 'The performance system forces physicians to see a large number of patients in a very short time. In practice, this means a 5-minute patient examination. A significant portion of wages is not provided as a fixed salary, but as performance payments. Moreover, it reflects very little on retirement.'

Stating that the demands of healthcare workers are clear, Küçükosmanoğlu used the expressions, 'We want a single-item salary. Wages should be regulated in a way that reflects on retirement.'
