Scandalous medical intervention on infant patient at hospital

Abdulkadir and his family, who live in the Mayadalı neighborhood of Hatay's Altınözü district, took their 5-month-old daughter, Hicran, to the Hatay Training and Research Hospital on the first day of Eid al-Adha due to suspected pneumonia. The shocking incident involving the baby, who was under treatment at the hospital, occurred on the third day of the holiday.

According to the allegations, a nurse entered the patient's room to remove an IV line. While using scissors to cut the bandage securing the IV site, the nurse accidentally cut off a portion of baby Hicran's right thumb. Immediately following the unfortunate incident, the family had the baby transferred to Mustafa Kemal University Hospital due to the severity of her condition.

The baby was rushed into surgery there, and the severed part of her finger was reattached. While Hicran's treatment is currently ongoing, doctors have not yet informed the family whether there will be any permanent damage.

Father Abdulkadir Akay described the process as follows: "My child was born 5 months ago, and I am now the father of a 5-month-old girl. We went to the hospital on the first day of the holiday. My child was suspected of having pneumonia, and we were treated there. On the third day of the holiday, she was already in the ward, and around 15:30, a nurse came into the room to check the child's IV. The IV had come out, and the nurse brought scissors to reattach it. There was a cloth-like material over my baby's finger, and she wanted to cut it. While the nurse was cutting it, she also cut the child's finger. After that, events unfolded. We received a referral from that hospital and came to Mustafa Kemal University Hospital. She is receiving treatment at this hospital, and the finger has been reattached. Her finger is in the healing process. We have not yet been given any information about whether there will be permanent damage. Our hope is that there will be no damage, and thank God, she is slowly recovering now. Her pneumonia is also improving. Hopefully, we will be discharged tomorrow. I was not in the room during the incident; my wife was. My wife called me, and I came to the hospital. We went to the prosecutor's office and the police to file a complaint. After receiving the file number, I will also apply to the court through my lawyer. Inspections regarding hospitals should be tightened. No one else should suffer; this was an incident that should not have happened. Our only wish from God is for our child's recovery."
