Süleyman Demirel's health issue during February 28 revealed

Prof. Dr. Osman Müftüoğlu stated in an article he wrote for Oksijen newspaper that Süleyman Demirel had shingles during the February 28 process. Müftüoğlu stated that he encountered rashes on Demirel extending from his neck to his eyebrows.

Müftüoğlu said, "This situation was literally a 'stress shingles' and we named it 'February 28 shingles'."

He noted that the stress Demirel experienced increased even further when the Chief of General Staff of the period, İsmail Hakkı Karadayı, stated that he was under pressure.

Müftüoğlu conveyed that with the help of dermatology specialist Nuran Allı from Ankara Numune Hospital, Demirel's illness was brought under control in a short time and this process was managed without being reflected to the public.

WHAT IS SHINGLES?

Shingles is a disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus and is seen in people who have previously had chickenpox. It manifests itself with painful blisters on one side of the body.

The virus becomes active when the immune system weakens and travels along the nerves, causing an infection on the skin. Although the disease usually heals within a few weeks, nerve pain can be permanent.

Shingles can transmit chickenpox to another person, but it does not transmit shingles. This is because shingles occurs when a virus already present in the body becomes active again.
