The country with the highest smoking rate has been revealed! Where does Turkey rank?
Turkey has become the world's top smoking country with a daily average of 17.1 cigarettes. Turkey is followed by Greece with 15.7 cigarettes. The country in 3rd place is Israel.
Experts, noting that 2 billion people worldwide are addicted to cigarettes and other tobacco products, stated that according to the 2018-2023 Tobacco Control Plan, the number of smokers in Turkey exceeds 15 million.
The statement, which noted that at least 1 in every 4 people in the total population aged 15 and over in Turkey uses cigarettes, announced that according to this rate, nearly 20 million people are regular smokers.
TURKEY IS FIRST IN THE WORLD
It was stated that Turkey ranks first in the world in the average number of daily cigarettes consumed per person with 17.1.
It was announced that this figure is 15.7 in Greece, 15.5 in Israel, and 15.4 in Japan and Austria.
CALL FROM WHO
The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued an urgent call for action to control the use of electronic cigarettes in order to minimize the harm to public health.
Experts, who state that the chemicals in electronic cigarettes, which are considered less harmful than cigarettes and are becoming increasingly widespread, are at least as harmful as those found in cigarette smoke, stated that one should be determined instead of trying different methods to quit smoking.
