Which vegetables and fruits have the highest pesticide residues?

Pesticides used to increase agricultural productivity can become dangerous to human health when not used correctly. Recently, products recalled from supermarket shelves due to pesticide residues have made headlines. A study conducted in the US has revealed which products contain the most pesticide residues.

The US-based Environmental Working Group (EWG) examined 46 different types of vegetables and fruits and detected at least one chemical residue in 95 percent of these products. The study found a total of 209 different pesticides across 12 products.

WHICH PRODUCTS HAVE THE HIGHEST PESTICIDE RESIDUES?

According to the study, strawberries were identified as the fruit with the highest concentration of pesticide residues. An average of 7.8 different pesticides were detected in strawberry samples. Spinach stood out as the vegetable containing the most pesticides, with 19 different pesticides found in a single sample. Grapes, peaches, and pears also drew attention with their high pesticide rates.

Experts recommend choosing organic products and washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consumption. Additionally, it is advised to peel fruits with skins or soak skinless fruits like strawberries in water with baking soda.

PRODUCTS WITH LOW PESTICIDE RATES

Fruits and vegetables with low pesticide rates include avocados, corn, pineapples, onions, peas, melons, kiwis, cabbage, watermelons, and mushrooms. These products are considered safer options due to containing fewer pesticide residues.
