Armed attack on businessman in front of his home in İzmir

Businessman Murat Ekinci, who lives in the Menemen district of İzmir, was subjected to an armed attack on the morning of May 2 while getting into his vehicle to go to work in front of his home. Ekinci, who was wounded in his right leg and abdomen during the attack, was taken to the hospital by nearby citizens and was discharged following his treatment. The moment of the incident was captured by a security camera at a nearby house. In the footage, a hooded and masked individual is seen opening fire on Ekinci's vehicle and then fleeing.

THE VEHICLE USED IN THE ATTACK WAS RENTAL

Gendarmerie teams determined that the vehicle used in the attack had fake license plates and was a rental. Two suspects who rented the vehicle were taken into custody but were released after their statements. Efforts to apprehend the individuals who carried out the attack are ongoing.

EKİNCİ SHARED HIS EXPERIENCE

In a statement following the attack, Murat Ekinci said, "The attacker had aimed at my head. I threw myself into the car, and the bullets hit my abdomen and leg. Then they fired again. My neighbor's vehicle and my own were damaged. My life is not safe; I am waiting for help from my state." Ekinci stated that he had borrowed 6 million TL, paid back 30 million TL, but was being asked for another 40 million TL, adding, "I did not pay it, and because of this, my gas station and my home were attacked. My children's lives are not safe."

While the investigation into the incident continues, Ekinci stated that the Menemen District Gendarmerie Command is working meticulously but that there have been no arrests yet. Expressing that he trusts the state and justice, Ekinci voiced that he is in a difficult situation.
