Arrests made following fumigation that caused infant's death in İzmir

In İzmir, the investigation into the death of 1-year-old Altay Toprak Kınalı, which occurred following a tragic incident after fumigation in an apartment building in the Konak district on November 11, 2024, is deepening. A report prepared by the Council of Forensic Medicine of the Ministry of Justice stated that the baby's death was the result of poisoning caused by agricultural pesticides used in the fumigation.

Following the incident, the fumigation carried out by the family living on the top floor of the apartment building affected the entire building. With the intervention of AFAD and medical teams, Altay Toprak Kınalı and his family were taken to the hospital. Despite all medical interventions, little Altay passed away three days later.

DANGEROUS AGRICULTURAL PESTICIDES WERE USED

Within the scope of the investigation, the owner of the pest control company, agricultural engineer Bülent Öz, and his assistant, Eyüp Gödelezli, were taken into custody. Investigations revealed that agricultural pesticides named 'Kingphos' and 'Grainphos' were used in the building, and that the use of these substances in residential areas is prohibited.

The Council of Forensic Medicine's report emphasized that there was no traumatic effect that could have caused the baby's death, but that there were signs of poisoning. In light of these findings, a new detention order was issued for Öz and Gödelezli, and they were arrested by the court they were brought before.

The incident has once again revealed the consequences that the uncontrolled use of substances harmful to human health can lead to.
