WHY WAS FATİH ALTAYLI DETAINED?
Journalist Fatih Altaylı was detained by police teams who arrived at his home in Teşvikiye as part of an ex officio investigation launched due to statements he made in a video published on his YouTube channel on June 20, which were alleged to contain 'threats' against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
In a statement regarding Altaylı's detention, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated the following: "An ex officio investigation has been launched against Fatih Altaylı for the crime of Threatening the President (pursuant to Article 106/1 in conjunction with Article 310/2 of the Turkish Penal Code) due to his threatening remarks targeting our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in a broadcast dated 20/06/2025 on the 'YouTube' social media channel bearing his own name; the aforementioned individual has been apprehended and detained today in accordance with the instructions given to the Istanbul Police Department."
