Bribery scheme in the judiciary recorded: Lawyer demanded 1.5 million liras 'pegged to foreign currency'

A new example of decay in the judiciary has been added to the list.

A lawyer demanded a 1.5 million lira bribe to resolve the case of a citizen who reached out to them.

According to the report by Fırat Fıstık from Halk TV, Ferhat Parıltı has been in prison for 2.5 years on charges of drug trafficking. His cousin Hacı Aydın was caught with narcotic pills and cocaine, claiming he had purchased them for personal use. Ferhat Parıltı was included in the case because he had called Aydın many times on the day he was caught and because the car belonged to Ferhat Parıltı's wife, Neslihan Parıltı.

Ferhat Parıltı and Hacı Aydın were sentenced to 15 years in prison for drug trafficking, and the bribery came to light at this stage.

1.5 MILLION LIRA BRIBE PEGGED TO FOREIGN CURRENCY

Neslihan Parıltı consulted a lawyer regarding her husband's situation. While the lawyer stated that the legal fee was 75 thousand liras, it was alleged that they demanded an additional 1.5 to 2 million liras for a favorable outcome in the case.

The conversation between Lawyer D.E. and Neslihan Parıltı, which was also captured in audio recordings, took place as follows:

"N.P: I am stating 75 thousand liras as the legal fee…

Lawyer D.E.: You might mention the other situation, perhaps they wouldn't want to do it…

N.P.: How should I say that?

Lawyer D.E.: Convey it exactly to the person you are going to inform. Tell them around 1.5 million liras; since the dollar exchange rate is constantly rising, they take it based on the dollar. When we did it before, they had taken it based on the dollar.

Lawyer D.E.: This is an illegal situation, let me tell you. This is a situation that could influence a positive outcome for this case. Perhaps we will get a result. This is just a situation that will strengthen our hand. It is an open-ended process that could go up to 2 million.

Since it has been going by paying off people from the very beginning, it will take a sequence of 1-2 months. You tell them that we also met regarding the illegal side to ensure a positive outcome for the case, we found a few connections, and in these situations, a figure like 2 million was mentioned to us.”

BRIBERY COMPLAINT AT THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

Following the complaint in question, Parıltı filed a criminal complaint with the Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The bribery allegation is now before the chief prosecutor.
