Case against CZN Burak and his father ends in acquittal

In Istanbul, Burak Özdemir, known on social media as CZN Burak, and his father, İsmail Özdemir, were acquitted in a trial where they faced up to 5 years in prison for allegedly conducting unauthorized construction in an urban conservation area. The Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance ruled that the legal elements of the crime of "violating the Law No. 2863 on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Property" were not met and ordered their acquittal.

The background of the case involved an indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which stemmed from an investigation launched following a report of unauthorized construction activity. The indictment stated that while the area in question could not be entered, external inspections indicated that the structure was under construction and the work had not yet been completed. It was also noted in the indictment that no permit documents were found regarding the work being carried out.

A prison sentence of 2 to 5 years had been requested for Burak Özdemir and İsmail Özdemir for "violating the Law No. 2863 on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Property." However, the court decided that the legal elements of the crime were not present and ruled for the acquittal of the defendants.
