The CHP Istanbul Youth Branch has filed a criminal complaint against the newspaper Yeni Akit following cartoons and social media posts published after the death of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek. In a statement made in front of the Istanbul Courthouse, they said, "We are monitoring the companies that advertise with Yeni Akit and we call on these companies to take the necessary steps."
The CHP Istanbul Youth Branch has filed a criminal complaint against the executives of the newspaper Yeni Akit and its news director Zekeriya Say due to cartoons and posts published by the newspaper following the tragic death of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek. A press statement was made in front of the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan before the filing of the complaint.
CHP Istanbul Youth Branch Provincial President Erdem Kara stated in his remarks, "Our Mayor Ferdi was a leader for whom all of Turkey mourned. However, some shameless individuals exploited this pain and made immoral posts. This so-called newspaper, its so-called news director Zekeriya Say, and Yeni Akit are responsible for these disgraceful posts."
"A NEWSPAPER THAT HAS LOST ITS HUMANITY"
Describing the newspaper Yeni Akit as "manipulative, immoral, and shameless," Kara said, "To be able to make these posts, one must have lost their humanity, honor, and conscience. There is no place for such recklessness in our culture and faith." He further stated that such behavior targets the unity and integrity of society.
"WE ARE WARNING THOSE WHO ADVERTISE WITH YENI AKIT"
The CHP youth members stated that they are monitoring the companies that advertise with Yeni Akit and that they expect these companies to see what kind of structure they are supporting and to make the necessary decisions.
"THE DAY WILL COME WHEN JUSTICE IS SERVED"
Gathering at the Çağlayan Courthouse on June 13, young CHP lawyers and executives filed a criminal complaint against Zekeriya Say and Yeni Akit on the grounds of 'inciting the public to hatred and hostility,' 'insulting the memory of the deceased,' and 'hate speech.' Kara said, "In this politicized judicial system, they may not receive the punishment they deserve, but it is important to put this disgrace on the record. The day will come when justice will be served, and no one will get away with what they have done."
