Criminal complaint filed against Rümeysa Eker for insulting Kemalists

Havva Kocakaya, President of the Samsun Branch of the Association for Kemalist Thought (ADD), stated that they have filed a criminal complaint following the social media post by former AKP Terme Municipal Council member Rümeysa Eker that contained insults toward Kemalists.

In a statement to the press in front of the Samsun Courthouse, Kocakaya emphasized that attacks on the fundamental principles of the Republic and the spiritual personality of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk are not issues that can be ignored, and stated that they will meticulously follow the judicial process.

Pointing out that Eker's statements targeted not only Kemalist individuals but also the founding values of the Republic and the legacy of Turkey's struggle for independence, Kocakaya said, "The Republic, founded under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, has viewed our differences not as a tool for division, but as a unifying element on the basis of equal citizenship."

Continuing her remarks, Kocakaya pointed to the importance of individuals in public office using a unifying and responsible language in society, noting that discriminatory attitudes and statements made against the values of the Republic cannot be accepted.

Furthermore, stating that the sensitive approach and response shown by Municipal Council member Neslihan Özdemir regarding the matter align with the consciousness of democratic representation and defending the Republic, Kocakaya expressed that they congratulate Özdemir and other members who shared their reactions on behalf of the ADD.

Underlining that attacks on the values of the Republic and Atatürk can be overcome with approaches that prioritize consciousness and common sense rather than dividing society, Kocakaya said, "Remaining silent in the face of constant attacks on Atatürk, Kemalism, and the principles of the Republic means failing to fulfill our obligation to both the Republic and future generations."
